JWV Discussion Forum Rules and Conditions

Entering the the JWV discussion forum constitutes your acceptance of the rules listed below along with Netiquette. What is Netiquette?  Simply stated, it’s network etiquette — that is, the etiquette of cyberspace. Netiquette is a set of rules for behaving properly online.

If you do not agree to abide by these rules, please do not enter the Discussion Forum.

  1. Remember the Human — Starts with the golden rule your parents and your kindergarten teacher taught you which was pretty simple: Do unto others as you’d have others do unto you. Imagine how you’d feel if you were in the other person’s shoes. Stand up for yourself, but try not to hurt people’s feelings.
  2. Be Ethical — Follow the same standards of behavior online that you follow in real life.
  3. Make Yourself Look Good Online — discussion groups let you reach out to people you’d otherwise never meet. And none of them can see you. So while you won’t be judged by the color of your skin, eyes, your weight, your age, or your clothing; you will, however, be judged by the quality of your writing. So spelling and grammar do count.
  4. Share Expert Knowledge — The strength of cyberspace is in its numbers. The reason asking questions online works is that a lot of knowledgeable people are reading the questions. And if even a few of them offer intelligent answers, the sum total of world knowledge increases. The Internet itself was founded and grew because scientists wanted to share information. Gradually, the rest of us got in on the act. So do your part for the benefit of JWV.
  5. Respect Other People’s Privacy – Don’t share other people’s E-mail addresses.
  6. Don’t Abuse Your Power — Knowing more than others on a specific issue, being more techno-savvy, or having more power than they do, does not give you the right to take advantage of them. Success is the combination of knowledge.
  7. Be Forgiving of Other People’s Mistakes — Everyone was a network newbie once. If you do feel that you have to inform someone of a mistake, point it out politely, and preferably by private email rather than in a public forum such as this. Remember, too, erasers were invented for human beings! Eliminate confusion
  8. You agree not to harass, threaten, embarrass, or cause distress or discomfort to other forum participants, the leadership, or the organization.
  9. You agree not to transmit any text that could be considered unlawful, harmful, threatening, abusive, harassing, defamatory, vulgar, obscene, or hateful, or text that could be considered objectionable to members of any race or ethnicity.
  10. Unless authorized, you agree not to distribute or publish material containing any solicitation of funds, advertising, or solicitation of goods or services, including advertisements for your business or solicitations for any charity.
  11. You agree not to post or transmit any material of any nature belonging to any person or party other than youself without the prior written consent of such owner. This material includes, but is not limited to, text, audio, software, animation or photographs. Without such consent, litigation can ensue. Therefore, written consent must me attached to the posting and forwarded to National Headquarters.
  12. While JWV does monitor each forum carefully, it is not responsible for any of the opinions and ideas expressed in the discussion forums.
  13. The review process works like this: A member writes an e-mail about a relevant subject. A JWV moderator reviews the correspondence for compliance with JWV’s Rules & Procedures. If correspondence is approved, it is posted. If it is not approved, it is returned to sender with the reason for disapproval.
