This web program, located at [1] www.nmajmh.org, offers many website listings that are invaluable to students and teachers, providing a plethora of fun and exciting projects and lesson plans. One of these websites, [2] www.va.gov/kids is from the Department of Veterans Affairs, and it offers lesson plans and a teacher’s guide for Veterans Day, and Patriotism. The three units of this website are (1) Kindergarten-5th grade (2) 6th grade-12th grade and (3) a Teachers’ unit. The sections for K-5th grade are: Cool Facts about Veterans, About the Flag, The History of the American Flag, Proper Display of the Flag, VA Kids Games & Activities with music-Creative Coloring, Make a Medal, Beat the Blocks, Patriotic Pairs and Drawings, Links such as The U.S. Department of Agriculture for Kids, U.S. Government Printing Office-3rd to 5th Grade, U.S. Government Printing Office-Ben’s Guide, U.S. Treasury for Kids, U.S. Mint for Kids, Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Kids Page, FEMA for Kids, First Gov For Kids, Kids Information on Deployment Stuff, Legion Kids, Memorial Day, Office of the Clerk-House of Representatives, Social Security Kids’ Place, The White House for Kids, U.S. Census Bureau-Fact Finder Kids’ Corner. The 6th-12th Grade Section consists of: Games such as the Lincoln Jigsaw Puzzle Beat the Blocks, Drawing and Word Jumble. There are games about The Department of Veterans Affairs, such as, what the VA does for Veterans, Veterans Health Administration (VHA), VA Helping Returning Troops, VA Research, Veterans Benefits Administration (VBA), National Cemetery Administration (NCA), and Origin of the VA Seal, Origins of the VA Motto, VA Historical Timeline, VA Facilities-History, and Fun Facts about the American Bald Eagle. Other areas provide in-formation specifically about a Veteran such as the definition of a Veteran, who is a Veteran, VA National Rehabilitation Special Events, famous Veterans, and Medals and Memorials. There are students’ stories about Veterans, VA volunteer and scholarship info, such as VA Student Volunteer Program, Congressional Awards, and VA Career Opportunities. There are links to the Central Intelligence Agency, Department of Justice for Kids, Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Kids Page, and Federal Trade Commission-Kidz Privacy. Additional resources/links are Studentsjobs.gov-Building America’s Future, The White House for Kids, U.S. Census Bureau-Fact Finder Kids’ Corner, U.S. Geological Survey, U.S, About the Flag, Celebrating America’s Freedoms, Old Glory, History of the Flag, Guidelines for Displaying the Flag, Star-Spangled Banner, The POW/MIA Flag and Origins of Taps. The Teachers’ Section has: a resource guide and classroom activities such as The Veterans Day, Celebrating America’s Freedom, Locate a VA facility, teaching with Historic Places. It also discusses scholarships and awards, and utilizing veterans as guest speakers, and provides a link to local VA facilities.
